(Q) How do I use this site? (A) Simply register for free, take photos of your items and save on your computer, upload to this site, monitor your items and check "sold" once the item is sold.
(Q) Who can use this site? (A) Currently we only allow users from Canada and the U.S.A. use this site (code provided by block a country)
(Q) Why do I have to log in? (A) Buying items: Registering gives you access to receive contact information to purchase items. Selling items: You will need to log on if you wish to edit and update your items
(Q) Why do I have to select a user name and password? (A) You are able to browse the yard sale items without logging on to the site but will need to login in order to get the contact information from the seller.
(Q) Should I register with my phone number? (A) If you don't register your phone number, it will not show up for buyers, only your e-mail address will show.
(Q) Is there a registration fee involved? (A) No, the registration and the use of the website is completely free for personal use.
(Q) How come nothing happens once I have hit PROCESS when posting my item? (A) Make sure the file extension of your picture is a jpg/png or a gif or it will NOT come up. Also, make sure you give the system a few minutes to finish processing, you will see a large version of your listing when it is complete. Scroll down to proofread and check your listing.
(Q) How much does it cost to post yard sale items? (A) There is no cost for personal or non-commercial users to post items! It's free!
(Q) How much does it cost to buy yard sale items? (A) No costs. Just login and contact the seller to purchase items.
(Q) How much does it cost to advertise my business on the right hand side of the site? (A) Contact us at info@smalltownyardsale.com to discuss how to advertise for as low as $10/month!!!
(Q) How do I delete my posting once it sold? (A) Go back inot the site and bring up your post, scroll down and check off the sold/delete button.
(Q) What will happen if I do not mark my item "sold"? (A) You may continue to get contacted from perspective buyers. Eventually the item will be cleared off the database after several months.
(Q) Do you have any tips for posting a great picture? (A) Use a plain background so your picture stands out. Consider using natural light and avoid using white in the background which can create too much contrast.
(Q) How do I share smalltownyardsale.com with my friends? (A) Look at the bottom of every page and click on the STYS Window Poster, Then print it out and put it in your window. Remember the more people that know about SmallTownYardSale.com the more likely you are going to sell your items.
(Q) How can I "Repost" my item? (A) After about a week, a REPOST button will appear for you to use. Select "My Posts", click on your item and scroll down, select "Repost".
(Q)How come my posted item doesn't show up on the list? (A) Make sure the posting had finished processing, sometimes it can take a few minutes as the image is converted to a thumbnail. Also, check that you did not put any characters such as $ # " ' ~ / ? in the description field.
(Q) What is an RSS newsfeed and what are the benefits? (A) RSS (Rich Site Summary) is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. So by adding a newsfeed to My Yahoo, Google, or My Favorites Centre on Internet Explorer, you can see the top 5 or so postings on the site as they change through the day.
(Q) What is Add Bookmark? (A) The Add Bookmark icon is so you can add the site to your social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, Yahoo and more. This generates more potential buyers and sellers on the site!
(Q) What do I do if someone offers to pay me more for my item and then request that I wire the overpayment back to them? (A) This is a scam, never do this. If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. Please forward us the email so we can take action. As well, you can report it to REPORT ECONOMIC CRIME ONLINE, www.recol.ca and they will forward to the RCMP. You can also send the email to scams@fruadwatchinternational.com.
